Have your say on a new antibiotic for plants
The Environmental Protection Authority is inviting people to have their say on an application for a new antibiotic to be used on kiwifruit and some other horticultural crops to treat bacterial diseases such as Psa.
The applicant, Hokko Chemical Industry Co Ltd, has applied to import the water-based antibiotic, KASUMIN 2L, from Japan.
It is proposed the KASUMIN 2L would be available for retail distribution and sale to commercial kiwifruit orchardists, and be used by commercial spray contractors and orchardist growers.
The applicant says this antibiotic has fewer hazards and lower risks to end users and consumers than alternative antibiotics.
If you want to have your say on this application, you should make a written submission by 5:00pm on Wednesday 24 July 2013.
