Kudos for agricultural research
The Dairy NZ and LIC Feed Conversion Efficiency team’s research into efficient cows won them the NZ Agribusiness Centre Agricultural Science Award at The KuDos Awards evening last night.
The team was celebrated for the findings of their six-year research project into how different cows are more efficient in terms of converting food into milk.
Through identifying a range of genetic markers, they are able to determine which cows in a herd will be the most productive. Interesting findings are that cows that grow efficiently and cows that eat the least have been proven to also produce milk the most efficiently.
