EdTech NZ Represents Aotearoa At UNESCO Global Education Coalition Annual Meeting In Paris

EdTech New Zealand (EdTechNZ) has represented Aotearoa New Zealand at the UNESCO Global Education Coalition Annual Meeting in Paris, marking a significant milestone for the global education technology sector with the official launch of the Global EdTech Alliance of Alliances (AoA).

EdTechNZ participated as a Founding Member at the Alliance’s constitutional convening meeting. Incubated by UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition, the AoA connects alliances across 50+ countries and all seven global regions to strengthen collaboration, share knowledge, and co-develop initiatives that support sustainable and inclusive digital education systems.

EdTechNZ Executive Council member Nader Luthera, who attended the meeting in Paris, said the experience underscored both shared global challenges and new opportunities for New Zealand’s sector.

“It was good to know that some of the local challenges we face in New Zealand are equally being faced around the world. From another perspective, I believe there are some very good opportunities for EdTechs across New Zealand to expand into markets and regions in need of strong digital technologies in education. Regions highlighted at the conference included Africa, South America and Azerbaijan,” said Luthera.

EdTechNZ elected to founding global leadership

EdTechNZ also confirmed that Executive Director Dean Watson was elected as an AoA Founding Board Member, representing the Asia-Pacific region.

EdTechNZ’s presence at UNESCO and participation as a founding member of the AoA supports practical outcomes for New Zealand’s education and innovation ecosystem, including:

  • Raising New Zealand’s profile and credibility internationally as a trusted contributor to responsible digital learning and education innovation
  • New partnerships and pathways for exporters, particularly in regions highlighted through discussions at the meeting
  • Shared learning on global challenges (and what is working in other jurisdictions) that can inform sector development and digital education progress here in Aotearoa
  • Stronger connectivity for EdTechNZ members into international networks, opportunities and future initiatives emerging through UNESCO-aligned collaboration
  • EdTechNZ looks forward to the opportunities enabled through the AoA “for our members, and for learners and educators globally.”
