Blood Sweat & Gears, Kiwi Wins Trans-Tasman Battle
Blood Sweat & Gears
Kiwi Wins Trans-Tasman
Battle
In this ultimate Trans-Tasman battle, the
race to find the most well rounded, modified, head-turning,
road registered car has come to an end and New Zealand has
come out firmly on top.
Our sole NZ entrant, Darryl Jhinku, competing in his custom built Subaru WRC, an exact replica of Possum Bourne's favourite World Rally Car from 1999, has held off seven Aussies and taken out the title of "Australasia's King of Cars".
Darryl relished the opportunity to stick it to the Aussies as he and his Subaru were put through their paces, along with seven Aussies, in a series of gruelling challenges to test not only their need for speed but also advanced driving skills, car handling and how well their machine scrubed up.
Anatomically correct, the original 4 door sedan had undergone some major renovations in order to meet the two door, wide body WRC conversion; and he had done just as much under the bonnet to ensure this replica rally car would really fly.
The only all-wheel-drive car in the competition, it provided a distinct advantage in terms of handling, however as he didn't have the big grunt of some of the other competitors, Darryl's abilities behind the wheel were crucial in some of the challenges.
