Five Fanatical Fans Announced As Finalists
BackingBlack, the fan club of the All Blacks, put out the word to find the ultimate All Blacks fans and after receiving hundreds of entries, Telecoms BackingBlack team has uncovered the top five finalists in time for the start of the All Blacks season.
Victor Lloyd, Christchurch – wrote his own All Blacks national anthem, and performs it with his banjo.
Dean Hohaia, Dunedin – has a dedicated “rugby room” in his house, and has been collecting rugby memorabilia for 25 years.
Stephen Hall, England – although never having stepped foot in New Zealand, Stephen is a big supporter of the All Blacks, sporting tattoos of former All Blacks, such as Tana Umaga and Jonah Lomu, on his body.
Felix Matheson, North Auckland – only 9 years old, Felix saves all his pocket money to buy old figurines, books, posters and videos of the All Blacks. He even dressed as Sean Fitzpatrick to his school disco.
Karl Bissett, East Auckland – made a large All Blacks banner while living in London. He has taken it to lots of games, and has tracked down a number of current and former All Blacks to sign it.
Between 18-28 July the finalists will have the chance to go all out and prove that they are the ultimate BackingBlack All Blacks fan, to earn the top spot selected by a panel of judges including members of the NZRU, BackingBlack and Telecom.
The winner will be announced at the beginning of August, and Caroline Booth of Telecom says she is very excited to see the result.
“We’re a country of All Blacks fanatics, but the top five fans that we’ve chosen really demonstrate the passion that Kiwis have for rugby and our team. Telecom is immensely proud to be standing behind the All Blacks, and clearly, so is the rest of the country. It’s great to see.”
