Registrations Now Open for AMI Round the Bays 2012

Registrations for AMI Round the Bays 2012 are now open online at amiroundthebays.co.nz.

This iconic event takes place on Sunday 26 February 2012 in Wellington.

The event is organised by Sport Wellington, a Regional Sports Trust which promotes and supports sport and recreation in the Wellington region. Returning in 2012 is AMI Insurance as principal sponsor. AMI is proud to continue their support of the AMI Round the Bays for the second year.

The official charity of the 2012 event is the Malaghan Institute. Based at Wellington's Victoria University and also supported by AMI Insurance, the Malaghan Institute is New Zealand's leading independent medical research facility. The scientists at the Malaghan Institute are dedicated to finding a cure for cancer, asthma and allergies, arthritis, MS and other infectious diseases. Participants can raise money to support their amazing work by opting to 'Run for Research' when they enter.

The 2011 event attracted a field of 11,137, a new Wellington fun run record. Event Director Craig Ireson, from Sport Wellington, says "we aim to hit the 12,000 mark in 2012."

Event participants can once again choose from the 7km run/walk option or the Half Marathon. The 2012 Half Marathon will be sponsored by ISC Lenco; a New Zealand based apparel supplier.

The route for both the 7km and ISC Lenco Half Marathon hugs the beautiful inner city harbour, starting at Frank Kitts Park and finishing at Kilbirnie Park, whilst the Half Marathon continues on around the Miramar Peninsula. The course is flat, fast and officially sanctioned by Athletics Wellington, meaning the running community flock to compete for the honour of winning Wellington's 'great town run'.

But it's not all about perspiration; the majority of the participants take part simply for the fun of it, walking and talking with friends and whanau, stopping to dip in the harbour on the way and chilling out to the live music, children's entertainment and corporate hospitality at the 'finish line festival'.

Craig Ireson says it pays to register early. "Early birds can make the most of our promotional offers, such as the complimentary Les Mills trial membership which you can access from the time you enter until the event. Also the first 500 entrants get a free gym towel and yellow socks courtesy of AMI Insurance - wear the socks on event day for a chance to receive one of 50 spot prizes" says Craig.

Early birds also have more time to raise money for 'Run for Research' and support the valuable work of the Malaghan Institute.
