Kiwi Olympians Train Future Swim Stars
Thirty Kiwi children gathered over the
weekend for the first ever Jetstar Super Swim Squad camp
hosted by Olympic swimmers Lauren Boyle, Danyon Loader and
champion triathlete Rick Wells.
The swim clinic at
Auckland’s Tepid Bath’s gave children aged 8 – 10
years, who placed fastest at the State OceanKids Series, the
opportunity to hone their swim skills with training and
motivational sessions presented by world class
athletes.
Jetstar Super Swim Squad mentor, New
Zealand Swimmer of the Year, Lauren Boyle, was impressed by
the swimming ability of the children.
“It’s
awesome to see grassroots swimming getting support from a
well-known organisation like Jetstar. The enthusiasm from
kids and parents alike at the camp was fantastic.”
David Hall, CEO Jetstar Australia and New Zealand,
said the Jetstar Super Swim Squad was formed to support and
celebrate New Zealand’s next generation of swim stars.
“We are delighted to play a part in the
development of New Zealand’s future swim stars – and as
a water loving nation, it wasn’t surprising at all to see
the immense potential these children are
showing.”
Jetstar is committed to connecting
families and has partnered with the State OceanKids Series
to support over 15 New Zealand families with a weekend away
in Auckland:
“Every child deserves the chance to
go on a holiday with his or her family. We are proud to have
brought together over 15 families from across New Zealand
for the Jetstar Super Swim Squad camp, to enjoy a weekend
away whilst providing an invaluable experience to some of
New Zealand’s future swim stars,” said
Hall.
State NZ Ocean Swim Series Event Director,
Scott Rice says; ‘The Jetstar Super Swim Squad has been an
exciting addition to the State OceanKids Series offering an
incredible opportunity for young swimmers. It’s very
pleasing to see Jetstar supporting the development of young
open water swimmers in New
Zealand.’
