Snow Sports NZ is Looking for Top Young Talent
Snow Sports NZ is Looking for Top Young Talent
Somewhere out on the great New Zealand slopes are the next Jossi Wells or Christy Prior. Snow Sports NZ's Winter Games Talent Camp aims to find this new top youth talent. Sport NZ in partnership with Snow Sports NZ and Winter Games is seeking to identify new talent in order to grow participation and achievement in snow sports.
The camp will see park and pipe athletes aged from 13 to 16 years gather in Wanaka to be trained by Snow Sports' top coaches for four days. Camp attendees will have a chance to work on their own skills while watching the best in the world compete at the Winter Games NZ.
Applications are sought from freeskiers and snowboarders with a track record at club, school or regional level. Applicants can apply online at Snow Sports New Zealand or Sport NZ websites. There are just 16 places on the camp, so competition will be tough.
Carlos Garcia Knight represents a success story of the 2011 Talent Camp as he has gone on to notch up impressive national and international snowboarding results. Interviewed back in 2011 Carlos said, “I applied for the camp because I think I will be one of the people, later on in life to compete in the Winter Games” and as the youngest member of the Weetbix Crew, Carlos is certainly on track to achieving his goals.
Applications to attend the camp close 1st July and then participants will be selected by Snow Sports New Zealand. The places will be awarded and confirmed by the 22nd of July then athletes can pack their skis and snowboards to arrive at the camp in Wanaka during the Winter Games from 17th – 20th August.
