640 Days Since the occupation returned

Amer Abdelhadi

Eighteen days ago, the Israeli occupation forces invaded Nablus beginning with Balata Camp and then spread to the rest of Nablus.

Houses were destroyed beyond repairs; large holes were made forcefully making life absolutely impossible for people to live in.. Homes were totally demolished; their residents becoming homeless. In Balata Camp, memories of homelessness and uprootal from one's land are recalled; forgetting is impossible for the dispossessed.

The occupation army enforced curfew on the city of Nablus has been imposed for days with no end in sight. They would leave the city and the Camp only to return with a larger invading force few hours later.

What made this aggression different from any other time is the fact that it is totally ignored by the world community.

Historical building going back to over 400 years are being destroyed; our history wiped out again and again. People are driven out of their homes for long days and nights.

This morning, we saw a new turn of events; the occupying army began to kill people for no reason what-so-ever.

Two young men, ages 25 and 26, and a child of 15 years old were killed. Amjad Bilal el-Masri, 15, was shot in the back while he was standing on the roof of his family's home. Amer Kazem Arafat, 26, was shot and killed while he was working on a school construction site. And Rouhi Hazem Shouman, 25, was also shot right in the center of Nablus. All three suffered wounds directed at their hearts. The Israeli military could not explain why the three were shot in the back by sniper bullets that pierced their hearts. If they were throwing stones, shouldn't they have been shot in the chest, the head or as the story is usually told in the legs or arms?

People in Nablus have come to the conclusion that this is a deliberate policy aimed at diverting public attention from what is going on in the old city of Nablus and the destruction of its historical places.

Can this be called anything but state sponsored and organized terrorism? But we ask why are terrorists harbored and supported by the world community, the world leaders, and the US Administration?

If you disagree, you must speak up! Demand that Israel immediately halt its attacks. Call for the Israeli withdrawal from Nablus and all occupied Palestinian areas.

The world is watching, yet nothing is being done!

Will you act to stop this now? Will you speak up for justice, for freedom and for peace? NABLUS ASKS YOU! WHAT DO YOU SAY?
