International Middle East Media Center - News Site

The International Middle East Media Center - News Website

Introduction: The International Middle East Media Center (IMEMC) is now launching its online English language daily at www.imemc.org After two years of field research, training and preparations, IMEMC is with the help of Palestinian, Israeli and foreign journalists now seeking to establish itself as one of the main liberal, non-partisan online news sources in the coverage of the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Background: In the context of the Israel/Palestine conflict, increased restrictions on international and local media agencies have stifled fair and accurate reporting from the region. Lack of access, censorship, and practical dangers resulting in injuries and death have all prevented journalists from performing their duty in the region. The secondhand sources that we are forced to rely upon are to a large extent maneuvered by political interests rather than journalistic professionalism.

The Israeli and Palestinian English language media, albeit professional, has yet to become non-partisan, and has monopolized the public debate. While Israeli journalists have to abide by the strict rules of their employers and government, Palestinian journalists are often degraded to the level of stringers.

As a result the work of local journalists has hereby been rendered ineffective, preventing them from partaking in critical media work in an international sphere. Seeking to provide readers with fresh non-partisan up to date accounts and analysis from Israel/Palestine, IMEMC has established an online English language daily.
