Update On Sri Lankan Hungerstrike In Baxter
Four more of the Sri Lankan asylum seekers who have been hungerstriking in Baxter Detention Centre were taken to hospital this afternoon. Two of them had previously been taken to hospital but returned to Baxter on Tuesday night.
The fact that their condition has deteriorated again so quickly is a sign that medical treatment is only a temporary measure at best. All of their friends outside are extremely concerned for their wellbeing. There is no news as yet about their condition.
Meanwhile author Thomas Keneally and two other members of writers' group PEN continue their hungerstrike of solidarity in Sydney.
