Prime Minister Sogavare Rubbishes “Dictatorship” Claim By Rivals
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare today rubbishes rival statements describing him as a dictator in Solomon Islands.
Opposition leader Fred Fono and his Spokesman Edward Huni’ehu (MP) on most occasions accused Mr Sogavare of running a dictatorial style government since coming into power last year.
But Mr Sogavare says the Opposition leaders seem to have a lot of confusion and fail to realize important achievements of the present government under his leadership.
He said since coming into office he has demonstrated strong leadership the makes decisions that suits the entire country.
“I think they are confusing dictatorship and strong leadership,” he said. “It takes a man to stand and I think I stood the test of time since we take up office and on issues that we advance and decisions that we made supported by the courts”.
“So I don’t see myself as a dictator and that is their own problem which I think they confuse dictatorship and strong leadership,” he said.
The Prime Minister also welcomed moves by the opposition to launch another “No Confidence Motion” in parliament if they are dissatisfied with the present government.
There have been unconfirmed public stories saying the Opposition Leader Fred Fono is planning another no-confidence motion at the upcoming parliament meeting in July.
“I welcome any moves by the Opposition because the parliament is the only rightful place to overthrow any democratically elected government,” he said. “Not in the street or by bribes”.
