New Film Reveals How Elections Are Stolen

NASHVILLE, TN (November 6, 2007) -- UNCOUNTED: The New Math of American Elections exposes a threat to the core of our democracy - our right to vote. The feature-length documentary will be released November 6 on DVD. The theatrical premiere for UNCOUNTED will take place November 12 at the historic Belcourt Theatre in Nashville's Hillsboro Village. Theatrical screenings across the country are being scheduled through Brave New Theatres.

UNCOUNTED reveals stories that didn't make the headlines, stories that will leave viewers outraged by the ways the American election system is manipulated:
• Clint Curtis, a Florida computer programmer, was directed by his employer to create software for voting machines that would "flip" votes.
• In Emery County, Utah, Bruce Funk, the elected County Clerk was unceremoniously locked out of his office by the county commission after he complained of security flaws in the Diebold manufactured voting machines the county uses.
• Diebold is also at the center of Californian Steve Heller's tale of election malfeasance. While working as a temp at a law office, Heller found out Diebold was using illegal uncertified software in their voting machines.
UNCOUNTED also tells the story of Athan Gibbs, an accountant by training, who wanted passionately for votes to be counted in a verifiable way. Gibbs found a cost-effective way to do so. He and the vote counting software he created were gaining a following among members of Congress before his unexpected death in 2004.

The filming began during the unprecedented National Conference on Election Reform that brought election activists from more than 30 states together in 2005. Earnhardt would spend the next two-and-a-half years traveling the U.S. and documenting the dirty tricks and downright illegal tactics being used to steal votes.

"The release of UNCOUNTED is timely," said Earnhardt. "Congress is right now considering legislation that would help safeguard the integrity of the vote," he added. "I hope UNCOUNTED will cause Americans to question whether their vote really counts, and then inspire them to make certain their vote does count."

Earnhardt is a producer/director of 30 years and a former broadcast executive. He is a winner of both Emmy and Iris awards. A national documentary on children's rights, a biographical documentary about jazz legend Helen Humes, and a comedy special featuring an up-and-coming Jay Leno are among Earnhardt's many credits.
