Return To Australia Of Sergeant Lyddiard
Statement From: Major General Mark Evans, Commander Joint Task Force 633 - Middle East Area Of Operations
I am pleased to advise that Sergeant Michael Lyddiard, who was very seriously injured last week whilst on operations in Southern Afghanistan, is now making good medical progress in his recovery at a NATO hospital in Germany.
Our medical team in Germany report that Sergeant Lyddiard is awake, eating and conversing with his wife and parents who have flown to Germany to be at his hospital bedside.
The latest medical report says Sergeant Lyddiard is now in a satisfactory condition and is undergoing minor surgery to his wounds.
Subject to a further medical assessment, Sergeant Lyddiard is due to be flown home to Australia from Germany today.
He will be accompanied by an Australian medical team from the Australian Defence Force (ADF), consisting of a doctor and nurse.
On behalf of the ADF in the Middle East, our best wishes go to Sergeant Lyddiard for a speedy recovery.
