The soldier wounded last weekend in Southern Iraq is recovering well in a hospital in Germany following specialist surgery.
Private Liam Haven suffered wounds to his arm, neck and face when his Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicle was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, 17 May 2008.
The 19 year old is assessed as being in a stable condition. The nature of his wounds remains medical-in-confidence. Private Haven’s family has traveled to Germany to be with him and remain by his side.
He is due to return to Australia after his recovery in the next month.
The Brisbane-based soldier from 6RAR was operating with the Overwatch Battle Group (West) and was participating in a patrol near An Nasiriyah when his vehicle was struck by the road-side bomb.
No other Australians were wounded in the attack.
