Staff try to avert further disaster in Pakistan

As well as distributing emergency supplies to flood-affected villagers in Pakistan’s north west regions, TEAR Fund’s partner staff are working hard to avert further disaster by ensuring that villages downstream yet to be hit by flood waters, are better prepared.

Ashraf Mall, TEAR Fund’s Pakistan country representative said roads, bridges, crops and livestock had been destroyed as rivers burst their banks and inundated vast areas leaving hundreds of thousands of people injured and homeless.

“This is one of the biggest floods in the history of Pakistan and our work with affected communities will continue into the future, helping them recover, rebuild homes and livelihoods and prepare for future crises,” said Mr Ashraf.

An estimated 3 million people have been affected by the floods, which have killed 1,600 people so far.
