Israel: Deportation of Nobel Peace Prize laureate
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the Jewish peace sailor - both resisting deportation
Both were put in jail Tuesday for resisting deportation, Irish Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Maguire being stopped at Ben Gurion Airport; Dr. Edith Lutz at sea, on the way to Gaza on the Jewish Boat.
After peace sailor Luzt was convinced that the Israelis who had been on the boat with her got safely home, she after all accepted being put on a plane to Germany.
Maguire, who had come to participate in a conference of Nobel laureates due to be held in Israel on Saturday, decided to contest the court decision and appeal to the Supreme Court. This will give peace activists a chance to be present and demonstrate support.
