Press Release
French Boat To Gaza
Paris, 19 July 2011
The attack of the Israeli army is an illegal and violent act.
The French boat “Dignité - Al Karama” was captured by the Israeli army in international waters and taken to the port of Ashdod, while its passengers were transferred with a naval ship. This attack is a violent and illegal act.
The armed commandos of the Israeli army approached the French boat 40 miles off the Gaza coast, in international waters, just like in May 2010, when the Israely army attacked the first Freedom Flotilla. It is a new act of piracy, against a “Tom Thumb” representative of the civil society.
We are still not certain that no violence was used, as acclaimed by the Israeli army, since it is impossible to contact the passengers. The military censorship is always applied. In all cases, bringing a boat and its passengers by force to the Ashdod port under threat of arms, in naval ships, is a violent act and must be condemned, as must the blockade of Gaza.
