Southern Illinois AIDS Walk Moves to World AIDS Day (Dec. 1)
The Southern Illinois AIDS Walk and Candlelight Vigil will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1 (World AIDS Day) at 6pm at the SIUC Student Health Center, 374 Grand Avenue, Carbondale. Set-up will begin at 3pm, and registration and a health fair will begin at 4:30pm. The walk begins at 6pm.
Individuals and teams can register on-line at www.CarbondaleAIDSWalk.org, or can contact Wally Paynter at 812-480-0204 or wallypaynter@aol.com for walk envelopes or for walk sponsorship information. Everyone who raises at least $25 will receive an AIDS Walk t-shirt. Sponsorships range from $50 to $1,000. For only $50, a group of business can have their name listed on the AIDS Walk t-shirt.
Proceeds from the walk benefit the Southern Illinois AIDS Holiday Project, which works to meet the needs of 150 low-income households impacted by HIV / AIDS in the 19 southern-most counties of Illinois.
Volunteer meetings will be held at 7:30pm at the SIU Newman Center, 715 S. Washington Street in Carbondale. Meetings have been scheduled for Monday Oct. 3; Monday Oct. 24; Thursday Nov. 17 and Wednesday, Nov. 30. Volunteers are needed from all 19 southern-most counties, high schools, community colleges, churches and the SIUC campus.
