GAZA, (PIC)– The Attorney general in Gaza, Mohammed Abed, asserted that there are no political detainees in the government’s prisons.
Abed asserted that the government’s prisoners have been detained for other reasons than political affiliation, and called all those who claim that there is any political detainee in Gaza’s jail to recourse to the courts in order to appeal against the rule of detention issued against that prisoner “and we will implement the court ruling whatsoever.”
Gaza’s Attorney general also confirmed that there are clear signs showing an increase in the crimes of physical and verbal abuses as well as the economic offenses, while he pointed to a decrease in other types of crimes.
He noted that more than 90 percent of the cases held by the public prosecutor, comes within the framework of minor offenses and violations and that the number of prisoners ranges from 1200 to 1500 detainees held for cases related to sales, debts and trading.
