At approximately 12:10 am on Wednesday 1 August 2012, unknown persons beat with cudgels the Gaza Strip-based Fatah vice general deputy, Mr. Yihya Ibrahim Suliman Rabah, 69, while he was exiting the Al Badiya Coffee Shop near Hidar Abdel Shafi square, west of Gaza City.
In his affidavit to Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, Rabah stated that he left the coffee shop to wait for a taxi. He was surprised when he saw two unmasked persons holding cudgels. One of them pushed him and he fell on the ground. They then beat Rabah with the cudgels and escaped on a motorcycle. A number of people gathered and carried Rabah to Al Quds Hospital as he sustained bruises.
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights strongly condemns the assault against Rabah. Al Mezan calls upon the Gaza Government to initiate investigation into the incident and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
