Ajay Ravindran to attend Global Youth Summit in London

Ajay Ravindran to attend Global Youth Summit in London
August 24 2012 –

Ajay Ravindran of Auckland will attend the Global Changemakers Global Youth Summit 25 November – 1 December.

Ajay was selected from over 3400 applicants from around the globe. The sixty selected participants will spend a week learning about global issues, the UK, and social entrepreneurship and share best practices in project management and key global issues including human rights, climate change, poverty reduction, education, and HIV/AIDS.

"The new Changemakers will share best practices on activism and work together with experts and other young social activists on how to best address the issues they are facing on the ground in their home country," says British Council NZ director Ingrid Leary.

"For a country as geographically remote as NZ, global networks are imperative for all sectors, including activism.

"Ajay, who works with youth empowerment and poverty, will be able to share the NZ experience of creating change regarding our own unique issues and challenges, as well as learning from global peers, and being able to offer support to their causes where appropriate."

The programme also includes presentations from outside experts and a short immersion in UK culture.

The Global Youth Summit is part of the British Council’s Global Changemakers initiative. Global Changemakers is a global network of over 800 social entrepreneurs, social activists and volunteers (ages 16-25) in 126 countries world-wide. Changemakers meet to share ideas and best practices, and work individually and together on projects that directly impact the lives of those in their local communities. In addition, each year, Global Changemakers are chosen to participate in high-level political and economic events, to act as advocates, share their experience, and raise decision-makers’ awareness of key issues on the global agenda.

Founded in 2007, Global Changemakers has partnered with, and participated in, World Economic Forum events, the Clinton Global Initiative, the Global Humanitarian Forum, various UN initiatives (including UNESCO Peace Ambassador programs, UNFCCC and COP, and the G20. Individual supporters include HM Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan, President Bill Clinton, and the actress Emma Thompson.
