Canon Celebrates Production of 90-millionth EF Lens

10 million units in 9 months as demand for quality imaging continues

Canon is pleased to announce the achievement of a new lens-manufacturing milestone, with the production of the company’s 90-millionth EF-series interchangeable lens for EOS cameras - an EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM - on May 23 2013.

“High-quality optics is the gateway to capturing great quality images that let you do more to enjoy, share, create or just look back on in years to come,” says Kim Conner, General Manager - Consumer Imaging, Canon New Zealand. “Canon’s focus on innovation for quality and creative purpose has resulted in a range of 84 EF lenses, offering everyone from entry-level consumers to professionals the lens choice to let them do more with what they see.”

Canon’s EF lens series was first introduced together with the EOS SLR camera system in March 1987 and over the years has led the industry through the incorporation of a number of innovative technologies, including world’s firsts*1 such as the Ultrasonic Motor (USM), Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, a multi-layered diffractive optical (DO) element, and Subwavelength Structure Coating (SWC) anti-reflection technology.

Canon’s extensive EF lens series line-up comprises a total of 84 models*2 , with a range of EF cinema lenses for digital cinematography, along with the recent introduction of the EF200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x in May this year - the world’s first*3 super-telephoto zoom lens with a built-in 1.4x extender, allowing for a 200-560mm focal length range.
