Equatorial Guinea Awarded 2013 Convener of the Year

Washington, D.C. - New York City based South African Arts International, Ltd. is proud to announced that the Republic of Equatorial Guinea has been selected for the 2013 Convener of the Year for second consecutive year.

This annual awarded accolade is being bestowed to a country that has showed great skill, courage and humanity in bringing Heads of State, government officials, International Humanitarian Agencies, Non Governmental Agencies, International Sports Governing Body’s, Artists, Artisans, Intellectuals and the Diaspora together.

“H.E. Obiang, President of Equatorial Guinea, continues to navigate his vision of the Horizon 2020 Development Plan for the betterment of its citizens as the country moves towards an emerging economy”, said Victor Mooney, executive director and founder of South African Arts International, Ltd.

“Through this initiative [Horizon 2020 Development Plan], this country’s infrastructure enables the ability to convene small and large groups of people successfully. Bringing people together remains a critical component in today’s society. Equatorial Guinea is becoming a model for the future of development", Mr. Mooney added.

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea (República de Guinea Ecuatorial) is the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa, and one of the smallest nations on the continent. In the late-1990s, American companies helped discover the country's oil and natural gas resources, which only within the last five years began contributing to the global energy supply.
