ASIA: Weekly Roundup, Episode 43
In this week’s Weekly Roundup, AHRC TV will report on the widespread problem of physical violence – amounting to torture – being committed by police and military personnel against others in uniform. The following stories will be featured:
• In South Korea: conscripts are subjected to
torture initiation which can be fatal
•
• In Sri
Lanka: Female military recruits are tortured by male
officers
•
• In Nepal: A Dalit policeman is
tortured by his colleagues
•
AHRC TV will end the
Weekly Roundup by remembering Helen Bamber, who died last
month at the age of 89. She was a prolific psychotherapist
and human rights defender who spent her life helping torture
victims.
The weekly roundup can be watched online at AHRC YouTube. We welcome both human rights feeds to be considered for weekly news bulletin and your suggestions to improve our news channel. Please write to news@ahrc.asia. You can also watch our Weekly Roundup on Facebook.
