Caravan of the Sixth International to go to Bachajón

Caravan of the Sixth International to go to Bachajón to Deter Repression against the Indigenous Community of San Sebastián Bachajón

Sunday, January 11, 2015

Taking into account the ability of the federal, municipal and state forces and criminal groups to coordinate to attack and disappear the Ayotzinapa student teachers, considering the ease with which the Mexican armed forces execute civilians as they did in Tlatlaya, and remembering the Acteal massacre, covertly encouraged by the bad government, we are currently extremely concerned for the physical and psychological safety of the indigenous community of San Sebastián Bachajón.

The community of San Sebastián Bachajón has been struggling for over six years to regain their communal lands, which have been dispossessed by the bad government through corrupt practices and terrorist actions. During these six years, two members of this community have been murdered, and 120 have been imprisoned and released through national and international solidarity, but three of them are still in prison. As recently as 9th January, 2015, the bad government made use of more than 900 armed agents to evict the community again after having rescued their territory on 21st December 2014. Today, January 11, 2015, this community was attacked while demanding the withdrawal from their community of the forces of the bad government. Two members of this community were injured.

The indigenous community of San Sebastián Bachajón fears an attack in the coming days by the forces of the bad government and paramilitary groups.

In response to the invitation from the ejido of San Sebastián Bachajón we, men and women of conscience and members of the national and international community, adherents to the Sixth, decided to travel in a caravan to San Sebastián Bachajón. We hope that our presence may deter acts of aggression by the bad government and create a promising environment for dialogue and respect for the ejidal lands of this community.

We ask all the adherents to the national and international Sixth to remain on alert for any attempt at aggression that may occur on the part of those from above towards the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón and the members of the "Caravan of the Sixth International in support of San Sebastián Bachajón."

Adherents to the Sixth and human rights defenders.
