The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New
Zealand to midnight Wednesday.
Situation: A high lies
over the country and tomorrow. During Sunday however, a weak
trough is expected to move onto the far south of the South
Island. Monday sees the anticyclone centred over the North
Island as a more active trough of low pressure moves onto
the lower South Island. A front crosses the South
Island
early on Tuesday and should clear the North Island early on
Wednesday leaving a southwesterly airstream over the
country.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY, ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: A few light showers about eastern Northland today, elsewhere fine with frosts overnight south of Auckland. Fine again tomorrow and Monday but cloud increasing in western areas from Taranaki southwards from Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, showers spread north, reaching Auckland after dark. Becoming fine in most places on Wednesday but a few showers remain from Coromandel Peninsula to Northland.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Remaining cloud and showers clearing from Gisborne this afternoon, otherwise fine and becoming frosty tonight. Fine tomorrow and Monday. Fine at first on Tuesday then showers and southwesterlies spread north from afternoon, reaching Gisborne after dark. Showers about Gisborne on Wednesday. Becoming fine elsewhere.
WELLINGTON: Fine today and tomorrow. Some cloud developing Sunday night. Fine again on Monday. Showers and southerlies developing on Tuesday then becoming fine on Wednesday.
NELSON: Fine today through until Monday. From Monday evening, cloud increasing about western areas. Showers and southwesterlies on Tuesday then clearing late in the day. Fine on Wednesday.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Fine today and frosty tonight. Cloud increasing about the coast for a time tomorrow otherwise fine. High cloud increasing on Monday with showers spreading into South Canterbury late in the day and further north overnight. Showers clearing on Tuesday then mainly fine on Wednesday.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Fine today apart from a few light showers about the southern Fiords. Rain developing tomorrow in Fiordland with cloud increasing further north. Rain becoming widespread Monday. Tuesday sees skies clearing from the south but showers remain about Buller. Fine to most places on Wednesday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Fine today and tomorrow but about Foveaux Strait cloudy with a few light showers likely to persist. Showers and southwesterlies develop tomorrow but only brief falls inland. Rain becoming more extensive on Monday then a colder southerly change late in the day. Expect snow to the ranges then clearing inland later. A few coastal showers on Tuesday and Wednesday but mostly dry inland.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloud and fine breaks today. Cloudy tomorrow with showers and southwesterlies developing. Showers clearing Monday but remaining cloudy. Further rain Tuesday with cold southwesterlies again. Remaining showery on Wednesday.
