Short Forecast from Weather Workshop valid to midnight tonight:
In the north and west of the North Island from Northland to Manawatu, also for Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Showers at times. Snow lowering to 900 metres about the central plateau which includes the Desert Road. Showers becoming confined to the central plateau later with only the odd shower persisting elsewhere.
For Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Cold and showery with further snow about the ranges.
In Wellington and Wairarapa: Showery with snow likely to 500 metres. That includes the Rimutaka Hill Road.
For Nelson and the South Island west coast: Becoming fine today. Frosty tonight.
For Marlborough and Canterbury: Showers with some sleet and snow to 400 metres in the east this morning.
In Otago and Southland: Becoming fine inland today. About the coast, showers slowly clearing. Very frosty tonight.
Chatham Islands: Showers.
