Workshop:
The Situation: A low should move northeast over the North Island and lie east of Gisborne this evening. A cool southerly flow affects most places. A high in the Tasman Sea should start to push a ridge onto the South Island this afternoon.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND and COROMANDEL PENINSULA: Mainly cloudy with showers and gusty southwest winds tending southerly tonight. Fine breaks increasing towards evening.
BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA: Mostly cloudy with showers becoming more frequent this afternoon then easing after dark. Southerly winds.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAIHAPE, TAUPO, TARANAKI, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Mostly cloudy with showers. Snow likely to the central mountains and the Desert Road. Winds tending southeast from afternoon.
WELLINGTON: Mostly cloudy with showers and gusty southerlies. Some snow to the Rimutaka Ranges.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Cloudy and cold with showers. Some snow to the main ranges. Southeast winds.
NELSON: Remaining showers clearing this morning and becoming mainly fine with southeast winds.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Showers becoming confined to the coast with increasing fine breaks inland. Becoming frosty in sheltered places tonight. Southwest winds.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Remaining showers clearing from Buller this morning. Mainly fine elsewhere. Southeast breezes.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Becoming fine inland with severe frosts to sheltered places tonight. Light winds. About the coast, cloud and a few showers remain with west to southwest winds.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showery with cold southerlies.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Showers becoming confined to the east coast of the North Island with mostly fine weather elsewhere. At the Chatham Islands, showery and cold with southwesterlies.
