tonight:
North and west from Taranaki and Taupo northward: Showers in most places this morning then the weather clearing from the south.
Remaining North Island areas: Very cold and showery at first this morning with snow to the Desert and Napier -Taupo/Taihape Roads. From afternoon, the snow level should rise rapidly with showers becoming confined to the main ranges and areas north of Mahia. Fine and very frosty in many places tonight.
South Island places: Remaining showers clearing this morning from Nelson, Marlborough and coastal Canterbury north of Banks Peninsula. Elsewhere, fine and frosty apart from cloudy periods about Foveaux Strait and cloud and drizzle developing in the west south of the glaciers.
Chatham Islands: Continuing cold and showery
