Aboriginal dancers descend on Auckland Zoo this Sunday

Round up the family and all your Aussie mates to come and see internationally renowned Aboriginal dance troupe, Descendance, perform at Auckland Zoo this Sunday 22 April (midday) as part of G'Day NZ Australia Week.

Descendance was formed in 1999 from the Ngaru Aboriginal Dance Company, Sydney’s first independent traditional indigenous troupe, and is made up of performers representing Aboriginal and Torres-Strait Islanders from many diverse tribes.
The troupe's one-hour lunchtime performance at the band rotunda, located near the zoo's Aussie Walkabout exhibit, will feature dancers, singers, storytellers and musicians.

Visitors will be treated to an exciting and eclectic show with the timeless sounds of the didgeridoo, and songs and spectacular renditions in traditional regalia of animal, hunting and spirit dances.

G'Day NZ Australia Week was established in 2006 to promote Australia to New Zealanders. Descendance are celebrating and promoting Australian art and indigenous culture as part of this week, which this year runs from 23 - 29 April.

Descendance at Auckland Zoo: Sunday 22 April, midday to 1pm. This Sunday also marks the last day of the zoo’s April school holidays ‘Camouflage Crazy’ programme, which features three interactive daily shows with cheetah detective Furrlock Bones – 10am (a pre-school show), 10.45am and 11.45am.
Normal zoo admission prices apply - adults $18.00, children $9.00 (Aged 4-15 years), senior citizens $14.00 (with ID), students $14.00 (with student ID). Family rates are also available. For more information, visit www.aucklandzoo.co.nz or phone (09) 360-3805.
