Rural Community Offers Support To City Cousins

Rural Community Offers Practical Support To City Cousins – Milk Tankers Carrying Water Rolling Into Christchurch

Following the 7.1 magnitude earthquake this morning to the West of Christchurch, Federated Farmers and Fonterra are offering practical support to the citizens of Christchurch City.

Conor English, Federated farmers CEO said today, “We talked to Bob Parker and offered whatever practical support we can. One of the biggest issues is fresh water. With the devastation knocking out power, sewage and water, our city cousins are in a tough spot.

“Federated Farmers and Fonterra have worked together to look at how we can help in practical ways. Our offer of water tankers has been taken up. Fonterra have converted three milk tankers into water tankers. They are fully loaded with 78,000 litres of fresh water.

“At the direction of the Mayor and his civil defence team, the tankers are being driven tonight to three locations for Christchurch people to be able to come collect water if they need it. These locations are Addington Raceway, Lynwood High School, and Burnside High School.

“We really feel for the devastating situation our city cousins are in. We just want to do whatever we can to help Christchurch get back its feet,” Mr English concluded.
