ANZ To Collect Funds Nationwide For Earthquake

ANZ NZ To Collect Funds Nationwide For Canterbury Earthquake Appeal

ANZ New Zealand has opened an account at branches of the ANZ and The National Bank nationwide to take donations for the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.

“Anyone can go into one of our ANZ or National Bank branches and make a donation to help rebuild Christchurch after the devastating earthquake that happened yesterday. The funds will go directly to the Red Cross,” says Steven Fyfe, ANZ New Zealand’s Acting Chief Executive.

People can make a donation to the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal either at an ANZ branch (account number:1839-0188939-00) or at The National Bank (account number: 06-0869-0548507-00).

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of Canterbury, in particular our staff, customers and their families who have been affected by the earthquake. We are keen to offer our support and assistance as the clean-up begins”

ANZ New Zealand donated $1 million to the Mayoral Relief Fund.

Mr Fyfe said that in addition to the $1 million donation, the ANZ and National Banks will also offer a special package of assistance for personal and business customers impacted by the earthquake.

As part of the package of support for affected customers, ANZ and The National Bank will:

suspend repayments on all loans for three months

waive fees associated with restructuring business loans considered necessary due to earthquake impacts

waive early withdrawal costs for term deposits

consider temporary adjustments to customer lending limits including credit cards to assist them to cope financially with unexpected costs arising from the earthquake

Mr Fyfe said most ANZ and The National Bank ATMs in Canterbury were operating. Internet and phone banking is operating as usual.

“Six of our branches in affected areas will remain closed in line with Civil Defence recommendations for the area (ANZ in Cathedral Square, Kaiapoi and Canterbury University and The National bank in Colombo Street, Sydenham and Victoria Square). We have also asked our staff to cancel any non-essential travel to Christchurch until further notice."

Nineteen branches in the region remain open. The details are listed on the ANZ and The National Bank websites, or customers can contact our call centre for further details.
