reappointment
Mayor Lianne Dalziel welcomes the reappointment of Minister Brownlee as the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery.
The Mayor says today’s announcement ensures there will be continuity in the earthquake recovery role and therefore the rebuild’s momentum won’t suffer any setbacks.
“This is good news as Minister Brownlee understands the issues facing this city as it looks to continue with the pace already set with the rebuild.
“The Minister and I have made great inroads in the last three months and we’ve shown that we are working collaboratively on the huge task that lies ahead.”
The Mayor says she’s very pleased that the Minister has initiated a new, whole of Government approach to overseeing the transition and longer-term governance of the city.
“I look forward to working with the Minister, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and other Ministers to develop a partnership that will secure the long-term recovery of our city.
“I also congratulate Nicky Wagner who will continue in the role of Associate Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery, as this is also very helpful in terms of engaging with the Christchurch community.”
The Mayor says the next step will be to meet with Minister Brownlee to establish a joint work programme to fast-track decisions that need to be made regarding the rebuild.
