Council responds to sea-level rise report
In response
to the recent sea-level rise report by the Parliamentary
Commissioner for the Environment (PCE) Dr Jan Wright,
Christchurch City Council will tomorrow consider a report
recommending a second peer review of its Coastal Hazard
Assessment Report (Tonkin & Taylor 2015) and request that
staff review the wording on its LIM notations for
potentially affected properties.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel says, "A second peer review will provide us with the direction that we need before we develop a process for engaging with the community on these issues."
"The Council welcomes the PCE's report recommendations that the government offer better direction and guidance when it comes to the scientific assessment, engaging with the community, and the important planning and management decisions that will follow."
Councillor David East, Chair of Regulation and Consents Committee, says "My concerns regarding the connection between the LIM notation, the Tonkin & Taylor Report and the Building Act process need to be addressed. Tomorrow, the Council will also be considering a recommendation around its submission on the Resource Legislation Amendment Bill."
