‘Young Labour’ rejects Labour vote on Bradford Bill

Despite Labour MP’s being told to vote for Sue Bradford’s ‘anti-smacking’ bill, the youth wing of the Labour party has sent a clear message to its MP’s that it doesn’t agree.

On the Young Labour website (www.younglabour.org.nz) the question has been posed “Should Section 59 (of the Crimes Act) be repealed.”

In a result consistent with every other poll done over the past 2 years, the result has been a resounding no!

80.7% have opposed Sue Bradford’s Bill.

“Despite the relatively small response size, it is still significant that even the party’s own youth wing is opposed to the way the party is voting on this bill,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First.

“This is yet another message to the Labour party that they are voting against the views of not only kiwi parents but also groups within their organisation.”

Mr McCoskrie says it is time for the Prime Minister and the Labour party MP’s to listen to NZ’ers on this issue, and reject Bradford’s bill.
