Bradford should observe democratic process – MP’s should ignore threats

Family First is asking MP’s to ignore the threats being made by MP Sue Bradford of withdrawing her Private Members Bill to ban smacking if the amendment put forward by National MP Chester Borrows is passed on Wednesday.

“If this amendment passes, then it will be the conclusion of a rigourous and healthy debate by the whole country, Select Committee, and the full Committee of the House,” says Bob McCoskrie, National Director of Family First NZ.

“Sue Bradford should not threaten to ride roughshod across this democratic process, which she initiated.”

“And politicians should not allow themselves to be blackmailed,” says Mr McCoskrie.

“NZ has one of the better Select Committee processes in the world and Sue Bradford, having started this debate, should not derail it simply because she can’t get things exactly her own way.”

Family First calls on MP’s to vote for what they know is best for NZ families.

Chester Borrow’s amendment delivers exactly that.
