Hutt 2020 Harbour Ward Candidates Selected

Hutt 2020 congratulates Maureen Burgess and Warwick Johnston on being successfully selected to contest the Hutt City Council elections in the Harbour Ward.

Maureen Burgess is involved in a wide range of community and environmental activities.

She has had a long involvement with the Forest and Bird (over 25 years and a period on the National Executive), the Wellington Conservation Board, the Matiu/Soames Island Charitable Trust (Chair), Keep Petone Beautiful, the Korokoro Environment Group, and the Hutt Valley Clean Water Campaign.

Other involvements include Rotary and sports clubs.

She has previously been a member of the Petone Community Board.

Maureen works for a Health-related Software company as a project manager.

Warwick is currently a member of the Petone Community Board and the Jackson Street Project Executive. He is also a member of the Moera Community House.

He is President of the Hutt City Workers Educational Association (WEA) and is WEA's National Vice-President.

He is actively involved in several Hutt Valley Historical Societies including the Petone Historical Society and Friends of the Petone Settlers Museum.

Warwick was a history teacher for over twenty years. He is now a recognised local historian and author. His latest book about the history and development of Moera is called "Moera - Sleeping in the Sun". Warwick continues to be involved in community education - running courses and historical tours.
