Manurewa Town Centre Far Cry From Four Mud Huts
Manurewa has grown
from four mud huts and 11 houses in 1874 to one of the
fastest growing wards in the city.
Manukau City Council is asking for submissions to decide whether a Draft Concept Plan outlining how Manurewa town centre will grow and look is what people want.
The Draft Concept Plan will be publicly notified on Friday 10 August until Friday 21September 2001 during which time people can view the plans and make comment.
The plan was compiled from feedback received through community consultation late last year and forms part of Council’s wider programme to achieve the vision and outcomes of the Auckland Regional Growth Strategy – a vision for managing the expected population growth of 2 million people in the wider Auckland Region by 2050.
In
March 2000, Manukau City Council prioritised Manurewa Town
Centre as the first centre in the city to undergo a
visioning exercise. This was done with the local community
to investigate options for redevelopment with an emphasis on
residential intensification.
