Tanker Incident at Ponsonby

Tanker Incident at Ponsonby

Today at 6.15am a trailer unit of a BP contracted semi trailer containing petrol and diesel became detached from the truck that was towing it in College Hill, (Ponsonby Auckland). A small fire occurred, but was quickly brought under control. No other vehicles were involved and no one has been injured.

The tanker remained upright at all times and it’s fail safe brake system engaged in the correct manner.

Emergency services are at the scene. At this stage the cause of the incident is unknown. A small quantity of fuel is believed to have leaked. This is being cleaned up by emergency services. BP’s emergency pollution control team is standing by and is working with emergency services. All remaining fuel will be pumped to another tanker.

It is likely there will be delays in accessing the immediate area until the emergency services have finished their activities.

A full investigation is commencing and all relevant authorities will be involved.

Further information will be provided when available.
