Central Motorway Junction: Stage 2 project information centre opens to the public
Transit New Zealand’s Central Motorway Junction upgrading project (Stage 2) now has an information centre open to the public Monday to Friday and Saturday morning as well as 2 hours on the first Sunday in the month.
Located close to the city on Howe St (which runs between Wellington St and Karangahape Rd), the centre has information about the second stage of the Central Motorway Junction which began construction in January 2004. Stage 2 of the project covers the area between Wellington Street and Symonds Street on the Southern Motorway and between Symonds Street and Bond Street on the Northwestern Motorway.
The Public Information Centre has information about the construction project, including its aims and objectives, and how it fits in with Transit’s overall plans for improving the Auckland region’s motorway and state highway network. A 3D Model, posters, drawings and maps of how the junction will look and function on project completion are on display, as well as details of the construction programme over the next two years. A project representative is on hand to answer any questions.
“The development of the CMJ project will have an impact on many people in the area and it is important to provide readily accessible and easy to understand information to the public. The latter is particularly relevant as this is a complex engineering project which is quite fascinating and I am sure that the public will be interested in understanding what is happening.” says Transit Regional Manager Wayne McDonald.
“We have been very pleased with the number of people who have taken the time to visit the Grafton Gully information centre on the corner of Alten Rd and Stanley St in Grafton. Besides detailing the now completed Grafton Gully project, it also contains information about Stage 1 of the Central Motorway Junction project. We have had positive feedback about how useful the centre has been and we look forward to this new centre being equally as popular.”
