New Lynn Transport Centre Makeover

Monday, July 26, 2004

MEDIA RELEASE

New Lynn Transport Centre Makeover
$4,000 in bus travel goes up in the air

Stagecoach is putting 50 three-month travel vouchers into helium balloons and releasing them tomorrow (Tuesday 27 July) at New Lynn to mark the refurbishment of its New Lynn Transport Centre.

The refurbishment, or “makeover”, has come about as a consequence of community consultation. As well as needing a repaint the community also said they wanted better lighting and a safe & secure area for bicycles.

Stagecoach, with assistance from Auckland Regional Council, has spent over $30,000 on repainting, improving lighting, new signage and cleaning the pavement.

The release of the special prize filled balloons also signifies the launch of Stagecoach’s special monthly pass deal, announced to the media on Monday 26 July. Our One Zone monthly pass, normally up to $80, will now be $49, our All Zones pass, normally up to $129, will now be $79. The sale starts 1 August and concludes 31 October 2004.

The newly positioned bike lockers allow for commuters to bike to the centre and then catch a bus (or train) to their work or study location.

New Lynn Transport Centre is located at Memorial Square in New Lynn between the railway Station and Lynnmall Shopping Centre. Over 2 million people either board, alight or pass through the centre every year.

Festivities run from 7am to 9am with the balloon release and other official pieces of the morning at 8am. Chair of the Auckland Regional Council’s Transport Committee, Catherine Harland, and Chairman of Stagecoach New Zealand, Ross Martin, will be speaking. Fruitvale School will be performing a special song at 7.45am and 8.15am.
