Departure Of Auckland Regional CEO 'Helpful'

6 October 2004

Departure Of Auckland Regional Council Chief Executive Will Be 'Helpful' To Incoming Council.

We understand that the chief executive of Auckland Regional Council, Mrs Jo Brosnahan, will be leaving her position in December, eighteen months before her current contract expires.

We believe the departure of Mrs Brosnahan will be helpful to the incoming council which will have the responsibility of appointing a new CEO at the beginning of a three year term rather than half way through when Mrs Brosnahan's contract was due to expire.

If we are successful in being the biggest single group on the ARC after the election we intend to introduce a new culture within the council and it is preferable for this to be carried out by a new chief executive who would not be carrying any baggage from last year's rates fiasco.

Many ratepayers still recall unfortunate experiences when dealing with the council last year on the rates issue, and no matter where any personal blame may lay, the ultimate responsibility always rests with the chief executive.

We are sure Mrs. Brosnahan will work to ensure a smooth introduction to new councillors and we wish her well in her future career.
