Development Trust contributes to community initiative

The West Coast Development Trust has approved $25,000 to ITP Reefton Promotions as a contribution to complete the second stage of the installation of historical street lights on Reefton’s main street, Broadway.

ITP Reefton is a community organisation with the mission of promoting Reefton and initiating the economic and social development of the community.

The purpose of installing historical street lights is part of a larger project to enhance the main street and to make it more appealing to passing travellers. The project is in keeping with the historic themes and initiatives of the town and will further enhance Reefton as a destination.

Reefton was the first town in the Southern Hemisphere to have a public power supply and Reefton is known as “the town of light”, it uses a heritage light symbol to promote the town. Recently many businesses in the town have also undertaken to upgrade their shop fronts into historical yesteryear designs and the combined redevelopments have been very positive for the image and confidence of the town.
