Conference first for North Shore City

North Shore City is set to host the first conference of its kind in New Zealand that will showcase its work on town centres.

The 7th International Cities and Town Centres Conference will be held at the Bruce Mason Centre in 2007. North Shore City was chosen over Christchurch and Sydney.

North Shore City's events, city promotions and tourism manager, Paul Dunphy, says the conference will bring economic as well as other benefits to the area.

"There is likely to be at least 400 people attending from all parts of the world including Germany, Canada, Northern Ireland and Australia," he says.

"Not only will the conference be a great opportunity for our planning staff to share their experience - for example with the Albany, Northcote and Highbury centre plans - but for them to gather other ideas."

The aim of the conference, which is organised by the International Cities, Town Centres and Communities Society, is to identify and address issues affecting them.

"People attending the conference will not only be from local government, there will also be planners, architects, project managers and developers," says Mr Dunphy.
