Pipe spans Kahika Stream

North Shore City Council is well under way with stage two of the $580,000 upgrade of the main trunk sewer through Beach Haven.

All that remains is to finish the installation of the 40m-long pipe bridge that spans Kahika Stream, and connections to existing sewers.

Once that is done the old pipe bridge will be demolished, says North Shore City wastewater networks project manager, Dave Woods.

"Planting has been done on the eastern bank as part of stage one, and will be completed on both banks once minor earthworks have been finished," he says.

"About 1800 native plants will be put in the western bank, as well as a walking track, and provision has been made for a walkway across the pipe bridge at a later date to connect the walking tracks on each side."

The work, which is part of Project CARE, the council's 20-year, $210 million programme to improve stream and beach water quality, should be finished by mid-June.

Stage one of the project, which was finished last June, saw the existing trunk sewer from the pipe bridge to Kahika pump station upgraded.
