Congratulations to forestry industry
Environment Bay of Plenty wants to congratulate the forestry industry on the way it looks after the environment.
A monitoring report presented to the council’s regulation and monitoring committee on Tuesday 30 August highlighted the industry’s good environmental performance during last season’s harvest. All 38 operational sites achieved moderate or high ratings for complying with resource consent conditions for vegetation and land clearance. Importantly, not one site was graded as poor.
Committee chairman Ian Noble says forestry companies are working hard to ensure they meet the standards. “They have obviously taken up the challenge and are doing very well with it. We want to congratulate them for being so pro-active about caring for the environment.”
The report showed that 74% of sites fully complied with resource consents while 26% received a moderate rating. This rating indicates they complied with most conditions. The conditions not met had consequences of a minor nature. Environment Bay of Plenty staff did not note any significant environmental effects as a result of this non-compliance.
