Councillors extend CE's contract

North Shore City Council has extended the contract of its chief executive John Brockies by two years, securing the services of its top official until at least mid-2008.

The Takapuna resident joined North Shore City in July 2003 on a three-year contract.

Councillors asked Mr Brockies to stay longer after reviewing the chief executive's performance recently.

Deputy Mayor Dianne Hale, who chairs the council's contract management committee responsible for the chief executive's contract, says councillors were very keen to extend the contract.

"We're very pleased with the way John has led our professional team over the past two years, and we're delighted he's agreed to extend his time with us," she says.

A business graduate, John Brockies is a long-time North Shore resident. Married with three children, his interests include running, chess and classical music.

Mr Brockies says he's proud to work for North Shore City Council, New Zealand's fourth largest local authority serving a community of almost 210,000 people.

North Shore City Council has a staff of 1100 in total, which report to John Brockies, covering professional disciplines ranging from arboriculture, water, transport, parks and libraries to environmental services.
