Manukau Libraries Launch The Jungle Rumble

This summer kids can ‘Jungle Rumble’ their way around a cool gameboard challenge to scoop up some cool jungle booty, including a prize of a ‘Friends of the Zoo’ Pass.

Manukau Libraries Learning and Literacy Co-ordinator, Megan Williams, says, “This new initiative for the summer reading programme is open to those pupils who attend a ‘Duffy Books in Homes’ school; those who enrol and complete the challenge will help their school win a free Book Council Membership. This entitles their school library to free books and posters along with a visit by a New Zealand author. Manukau Libraries is pleased to be able to offer incentives for children to help improve literacy levels in the city.

“Prizes include copies of Encarta and Britannica 2006 CD Roms, plus Wild Card prizes of children’s fiction, movie vouchers and stationery. Children must check-in at the library once throughout the challenge. All those who complete the gameboard are invited to the outdoor Jungle Party at the Auckland Regional Council Botanical Gardens with entertainment from ‘The Funky Monkey’s’.”

Enrolments open at Manukau Libraries this Thursday 8th December. Check with your local library for enrolment times. For children to enrol they need to have a parent or caregiver with them, have a Manukau library card, and be aged between 4-12 years. Membership is free.

Manukau Libraries' Jungle Rumble Summer Reading Challenge is funded by Manukau City Council with generous sponsorship from Auckland Zoo, The NZ Book Council, University Book Shop, Educational Computing, Baker & Taylor International, Peter Pal, Raeco, Pizza Hut, Village Skycity Cinemas (Highland Park), Whitcoulls, Duffy Books in Homes, Pakuranga Rotary Club and the Otara Boards Forum.

The challenge is available at all branches except Clendon who will be moving to their new building over the summer. Clendon customers can join at Manurewa or the City Centre library.
