2005/06 sporting and community organisations rates assistance
Rates assistance to community and sporting organisations totalling $47, 749 was approved at the Corporate Governance meeting of the Manukau City Council last night.
The annual grants were made under Council’s Policy on Annual Land Rates Assistance Grants adopted in May 2004 with the aim of providing annual grants up to a maximum of 50% of rating costs to sports clubs and community groups who provide programmes and services that benefit Manukau residents.
Chair of the Corporate Government Committee Councillor Bob Wichman says: “Council developed the grants policy in response to changes made in the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 which took away the ability for councils to remit rates for these types of organisations.
“While the assistance is only for three years, we hope the grants go some way to assisting these sporting and community organisations while at the same time recognising the benefits they bring to our residents” says, Councillor Wichman.
A list of the recipients of the grants for the last two years is attached.
